September 2005 - September 2006

The mission of the New England Environmental Education Alliance is to promote quality environmental education across New England in partnership with the state environmental education organizations.

Objectives

  • Provide regional professional development opportunities
    Strategy: Host conferences, retreats and workshops, for environmental education practitioners, administrators, and state environmental education (EE) board members;
  • Recognize exemplary environmental educators and programs in New England Strategy: Annual awards program
  • Provide current EE information and resources
    Strategies: Publish New England Journal of Environmental Education, Maintain NEEEA website, create and maintain NEEEA list serve and mailing list, via state organization newsletters, be an active NAAEE affiliate
  • Assist state EE organizations growth and development
    Strategies: All of the above!

Accomplishments

  • Provided support and guidance for states hosting the NEEEA Annual Conference, working with the MA Conference Committee to finish the last details of a successful 2005 conference, the RI Conference Committee to support the organization of the 2006 conference and the ME Conference Committee on the 2007 conference.
  • Transformed the NEEEA list to a true moderated listserve. Hosted a State Leadership Retreat in November 2005 at Ferry Beach Ecology School focused on fundraising.
  • Planned an Administrator's Retreat for November 2006.
  • Presented the annual NEEEA awards for Environmental Education at the 2006 conference.
  • Continued the support for an electronic NEJEE article on the NEEEA website.
  • Maintained formal affiliation with the North American Association for Environmental Education transitioned our liaisons from Drew Dumsch (ME) to co-liaisons Kara Wooldrick (ME) and David Moon (NH).
  • Held a NEEEA Board retreat in winter of 2006.
  • Actively applied for grant funding.
  • Created a job description, examined pros and cons, voted to pursue the hiring of a NEEEA staff person.
