New England Journal

As one of its key initiatives, NEEEA publishes an online journal, the New England Journal of Environmental Education (NEJEE). NEJEE is written for practicing environmental educators: teachers, naturalists, program developers and administrators.

The Journal explores the state of the art, debates the issues facing environmental education and examines environmental affairs as they relate to EE. It takes an informal, wide-ranging approach to EE, with a goal of placing our daily experiences of environmental education in a broader perspective.

Contribute an Article to the Journal

We invite all involved with environmental education to submit articles to NEJEE. If you are interested in submitting an article, send a one-page query that includes the proposed topic, notes the perspective from which the article is to be written, and summarizes the content. Queries should be submitted via e-mail as an attachment; please put NEJEE in the subject line. The editorial board will review your proposal and respond with suggestions.

Guidelines for Articles

  • Submissions should be well written, interesting, useful and something that environmental educators in New England will want to read. Let your writing reflect your own voice and style.
  • Articles should reflect the goals of the New England Environmental Education Alliance and the objectives of the Journal.
  • Articles should be concise and under 3,000 words. Submissions may also include a short (50 words or less) author’s biography.
  • In order to facilitate discussion of your topic on the NEEEA listserv, authors are asked to include email contact.
  • We do not require sources or references, but if you use them, place them at the end of the piece, with complete bibliographic information.
  • Any illustrations or photographs should be sent as jpeg files.
  • Articles should be submitted via e-mail as an attachment; please put NEJEE in the subject line.

The editorial board will review submissions. If accepted for publication, the editors will contact the author with comments and suggestions for changes, if any. We reserve the right to edit all material for length, clarity and grammar.

Authors will retain the copyright to their material for future publication. As a non-profit environmental education organization, we do not have the means to offer payment to contributors. However, we do offer a $50 discount to the annual NEEEA conference to authors of articles published by NEJEE during the current year.

Deadlines: Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis and new articles are posted quarterly. They remain posted for one year and are then archived.

Submissions should be sent to: Marilyn Wyzga - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or Lisa Purcell - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
